Data analysis underway

27 Apr 2019

Data analysis is now underway on WHITE4 (X-BOLT vs SHS), the world's largest ever hip fracture fixation randomized trial at n=1140

The first patient was randomized in June 2016 and the 1140th patient on April 27th, 2018.

10 centres in the UK participated, including Oxford, Northumbria, Leicester, Newcastle, South Tees, Frimley Park, Wexham, Coventry, Bristol and Portsmouth.

To ensure all high risk patients were included, ethics approval was granted to include patients with dementia who were otherwise unable to consent to inclusion.

Inclusion criteria: All extracapsular fractures where the operating surgeon deemed a sliding hip screw device and side plate was appropriate.

Follow-up assessments at 4 weeks and 4 months, with the final 12-month follow-up completed in all patients by end April 2019.
